About the artwork and installation
The Industrial Romance project is an abstract visualization of transformation of a location, development, or neighborhood. The concept is built around creating ethereal architectural landscapes from photographs at and around a specific location, in this case at Equity Residential’s new construction at 100 K Street NE in Washington, DC. The slides above show the final artwork installed. Each floor has its own curated set of images in the foyers across from the elevators - 12 floors, 36 images.
Initial photography
This is a small selection of photos taken within a two-block radius of the property (Lois & I shot nearly 1000 over a two-day period). All kinds of urban living details are photographed - from small industrial fixtures to complete construction sites - anything a resident would pass by in the neighborhood on a regular basis. After a careful selection process, photos are deconstructed and combined in a way that transforms them into the final images.
Artwork
A selection of 12 of the 36 images - when combining the deconstructed photos into final artwork, hints of the original images remain interwoven into the overall architecture. The color palettes are driven by the initial photos and are carefully coordinated in the digital imaging process.
Complete in-studio production
Each artwork was produced, printed and framed in our studio in Asbury Park, NJ. The above images take you through some of the steps from printing to framed images ready to wrap and ship. For the Equity project, we delivered and installed the project ourselves. We pay meticulous attention to every detail of our projects!
